Surgical steel 316L piercing with a super cute star!
The piercing is made of surgical steel 316L, which means high-quality stainless steel. The L stands for ‘low carbon’, a low carbon content, making the steel more resistant to rusting. 316, in this case, means that the steel consists of approximately 17% chromium, 9 to 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. The chrome provides the chromium oxide and protects the steel from rust and scratches. Nickel ensures that the steel is smooth, this is very important because the layer of chromium oxide can then better adhere and the protection is better. Molybdenum provides hardness and makes the steel more difficult to bend, this is also very important as the layer of chromium oxide (together with the steel) is damaged when the steel is bent. Surgical steel 316L is therefore very difficult to rust. If you have a nickel allergy or the piercing has been set, it is not recommended to use surgical steel piercings.
